Is There Strength in Weakness?

A few days ago, I was reminded of a few verses from the Bible. They are actually verses that were used in my life when I was struggling to overcome health problems after the surgery to remove the mass and right side of my thyroid gland 7 years ago. The verses come from 2 Corinthians chapter 12. Verses 9 and 10 say, “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamaities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

Weakness and Growth

Seven years ago, my circumstances were different than they are today. Then I was dealing with fluctuating hormones, heart palpitations, body temperature fluctuations, anxiety, depression, and panic attacks. I felt so weak from the symptoms as my body tried to adjust to the changing hormones from losing part of my thyroid gland.

During that time, I took the time to research and learn what my body needed in order to heal. The lessons I learned and the strength I gained have equipped me to get where I am today. God upheld me and used everything that happened during that time in my life. It may not have been pleasant, but it was needed.

The Truth that Upholds Me

Circumstances change and weakness may pop up in other areas. Today, areas I feel weak in may be different than what I felt 7 years ago. The feeling of weakness can range from physical to emotional to mental to spiritual. I do believe, however, that the truth that upheld me years ago still stands today. God’s grace is sufficient. His strength can carry us through. He gives us the tools that we need, and He promises His strength when we call out to Him to uphold us.

A Different Kind of Post

We do not always understand circumstances that happen. As a Christian, I believe that they do serve a purpose, and I believe that God’s presence is with us through all circumstances when we believe in Him. I realize this post is very different from my normal health posts. However, after being reminded of God’s promises over the past few days, I truly felt led to share this today.

A New Strength

Mind, body, and spirit, I do believe it all goes together. I hope these words encourage you today. Feeling weak does not have to be a bad thing. It can result in finding a strength that you never knew was possible. Today I choose to believe in the promises before me. I choose to put one foot in front of the other and do the next right thing. For today that means starting my day with gratitude and truth, exercising, taking the steps to help those around me, working in the garden, and cleaning.

Do you need encouragement today? Do not hesitate to reach out and let me know how I can pray for you. Sometimes we just need to know someone is praying for us when we may not have the strength to pray and believe for ourselves. May you find new strength today, dear friends.
