Healthy Habits: The Key to Feeling Good

Do you believe that you are worth taking care of? Do you believe that you deserve to feel good? I get the fact that life is busy, and we put ourselves on the back burner to meet others needs. This especially is true of moms. Then, add in the fact that lack of energy and focus, digestive issues, and mood swings just seem to be accepted as normal these days. Sometimes symptoms just get overlooked as a part of life.

I Get It

For so many of us, our healthy habits get put on hold, and we tell ourselves that one day when life slows down, we will get to it. Meanwhile, we are slowly depleting our energy stores, running our bodies down, and our stress hormone starts increasing. This leads to even more exhaustion and causes other issues as well. Believe me when I say that I understand.

Here's What Happened

A few years ago, I was directing a softball program that my daughter played in. It pretty much ran my life, and I fell into some unhealthy habits. A candy bar and soda on the way to the ballfield was my “reward’ for showing up and would “give me the energy to get through the day.” Yes, those were the justifications I told myself. I knew that was not the right answer, but it was how I was coping with the stress. By the end of the season I was run ragged, and it took me weeks if not months to recover. I knew better, but I succumbed to unhealthy coping mechanisms and unhealthy habits. It not only affected me, but it affected my family because of how I felt.  So, when I say that I understand the struggles, I truly do. But I also understand how that feels.

It Doesn't Have to End There

The story does not stop there. The next year I was in the same position as director, but I told myself we were not going back to that unhealthy state. I did not want the consequences. So that year I had a plan in place. Instead of stopping at the store on the way to the field, I had my snack packed and my healthy all-natural “energy” drink in hand as I walked out my door. I also took the time to focus on making sure I was getting enough exercise as well. The stress was still extremely high, but I was much better able to handle myself and my responsibilities. After the season, there was no recovery time…my habits were in place and had helped me stay healthy.

Fearfully and Wonderfully Made

It amazes me how the body works. We are fearfully and wonderfully made by a God who loves us, and we have a responsibility to care for this body we call home. It is designed to thrive on the proper hydration, nutrients, movements, and thoughts. That being said, we do not live in a perfect world, so of course there will be times that we are reminded of our humanness.

Healthy Habits to Thrive

My point is that there are healthy habits that can help us thrive and truly live our lives to the fullest. Knowing now how much healthy habits have improved my life, I desire to see others reach their full potential too and feel good in the process.
